Right now, you can change the Login / Register buttons to text links when you have the "Login View Settings" option set to 'Modal Popup' and "Modal Style" option set to 'Text'. If you want the buttons as links when you're using the regular view instead of modal popup, you'd need to do your own template override for the module view file.
